"Center of Taormina is fine - clean, nice streets, shops and restaurants. Overall feeling of safety is very good in the center. The beach however (Isola Bella) was a big disappointment, we expected a natural site, but got a dirty beach, littered with plastic waste, beer cans, cigarette butts, trash. The funivia did not work, so we chose to take the ASM bus from the beach back to Porto Messina. We bought tickets at the vending machine in the Mazzaro square. 3 people x 2 euros = 6 euros. The ASM bus driver refused to accept our tickets - he didn't even want to look at them. We had to pay 6 euros again, on the bus, directly to him. This is not right and this man is ripping off tourists. It's a shame, because Taormina is a very nice city. The beaches have a lot of potential, but have to be cleaned up! The beach of Giardini-Naxos is outrageous. I have never seen such a dirty beach anywhere. I do understand that Giardini-Naxos is not part of Taormina, but a lot of the tourists of Taormina end up going there (and being very disappointed)."

"Taormina è meravigliosa, peccato per i siciliani che non amano la propria terra, spazzatura sia per strada che anche nelle spiagge. Luoghi di cultura maltrattati. È davvero triste vederla trattata così."

"The city was spotless, and the David statue at the ancient theater was beautiful. All of the maintenance workers we talked to were friendly. And it was great to see cats every day. My one suggestion is to repair the trail that goes from via Roma to the sea. "

"It was my third time in Taormina, I love the city and the people. Everyone is super lovely. I was lucky enough to see the carnival in February, celebrations in March and Christmas decorations in December. It's really safe and lovely. Hope to be back soon! "
